Working to win access around Langness lighthouse for everyone

Current Department of Transport position

The Department of Transport has formulated its position on the Langness issue, and the phraseology used in the following letter to PRoWL is also occurring in letters being sent out by the current DoT minister, Phil Braidwood.

Thanks go to PRoWL members who are using the pre-election period to keep the issue alive in the minds of election candidates.

Bruce Hannay, Director of Highways, wrote:

"I can now advise you that my Department has considered the clarification of the statutory obligations of the Department under the Highways Act 1986, and will now be calling a meeting of present and former landowners requesting them to submit evidence they have with regard to the status of the paths on the Langness peninsular. Following this meeting my Department will then decide whether or not it is appropriate to take Court proceedings to determine the status of these paths.

I shall advise you when this decision has been made."

PRoWL would be interested in hearing from any supporters who would volunteer themselves to stand up in court and repeat the claims made in the affidavits, namely that they personally had walked the circular path ( among others ) as a right for more than 21 years.
